JJS Transportation is seeking a Fleet Manager in our Valley Stream office to improve the company's
operational performance and ensure regulatory compliance for our fleet of 50+ trucks and company
drivers. As a member of the leadership team, the Fleet Manager will work closely with senior
management and dispatch, and will be responsible for truck procurement and maintenance,
recruiting and performance management, total cost of ownership optimization,
DOT/Safety/regulatory compliance, and tax reporting for the fleet. The Fleet Manager is also
responsible for implementing regulatory compliance and safety programs, procedures and policies
(accidents, DOT stops and audits, etc.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lease/rental negotiations for all fleet equipment (tractors, box trucks, trailers and chassis)
  • Fleet maintenance (vendor evaluation/selection, budgeting, scheduling, score carding and record
  • Regulatory compliance of drivers and equipment (DOT, HoS, driver log audits, DOT audits, etc.)
  • Fuel cards and fuel purchase management, tolls (E-Z Pass)
  • Understand, track and optimize total cost of ownership (TCO)
  • Driver recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, retention
  • Driver safety compliance (promote safety, raise awareness, training, evaluate, score card)
    Establish and maintain fleet policies and procedures (DOT stops, accident reporting, break-
    downs, etc.)
  • IFTA/HUT filing
  • Manage and improve our ISS score
  • Daily accounting of all fleet equipment and drivers
  • Examine historical data to optimize routing and improve efficiency
  • Implement an advanced fleet management system
  • Special projects as appropriate.
  • Perform administrative functions (scheduling, payroll, training, performance reviews, and reporting)

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Logistics (Bachelor's preferred)
  • 5 or more years' experience in general transportation or logistics
  • 3 or more years' experience managing commercial motor vehicles
  • Extremely organized, with high attention to detail and impeccable record keeping
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively (team player)
  • Excels in working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Professional communication style and demeanor at all times
